What personal information do we collect from people who visit our website or blog?

By default, we do not collect information from the visitors to our site. Some details may be collected to enhance your user experience.

When do we collect information?

Forms

We collect information when you subscribe to our newsletter or sign up to receive store promotions. This information is submitted via a pop-up form or the form at the bottom of the page.

Comments

When a visitor leaves a comment on our site, we collect the data shown in the comment forms and also the IP address and user agent string to help spam detection.

An email thread is created for us to respond via our web host. We do not see the actual details, only the name you used for the comment and the actual comment for responses.

How long do we keep your data?

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. Comments that are derogatory or offensive will be deleted.

How do we use your information?

If you sign up for our newsletter or store promotions, you will get periodic emails with regards to newsletters, new promotions, or products sold in our Nomad store.

Occasionally, we will add a link to a third-party site while blogging to promote either companies or products used while traveling. Third-party sites have separate privacy policies and are not associated with Novaturient Nomads. We, therefore, have no liability for the content on these sites. There are also embedded links to our other blogs and our YouTube page. These sites may monitor or track your use while on their page. As always, please read their privacy policies for this information.

Regulations

California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA)

The California Online Privacy Protection Act is the first state law to require websites and online services to post a protection policy. This applies to any person or company within the United States (and conceivably the world) whose website collects personally identifiable information from California consumers. Read more on CalOPPA here.

According to CalOPPA, we agree to the below:

Users can visit the site anonymously. Once the privacy policy is created, it will be listed on our home page and any page that would be the first page a person may visit on our site. (In our case, the blogs home page and the store page). Our privacy policy mentions the word Privacy and can be found on the pages previously mentioned.

Users will be notified via email (if subscribed) about any changes to our privacy policy.

It is important to know our site has third-party behavioral tracking as it is included in our package from our web host.

The Fair Information Practice Principles (FIPPs)

The Fair Information Practice Principles (FIPPs) are a set of internationally recognized principles that inform information privacy policies both within the government and the private sector. It is the core privacy act in the United States and its important role in building data privacy rules within the United States.

To be compliant with The Fair Information Practice Principles (FIPPs) we will notify users within seven (7) days if a data breach occurs.

We also agree with the Redress Principle, which states users have the right to pursue legal action against data collectors who fail to uphold the standards of this law. This allows users to use courts and government agencies if we are noncompliant with data processing.

For more on FIPPS.

COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act)

The primary goal of COPPA is to place parents in control over what information is collected from their young children online. The Rule was designed to protect children under age 13 while accounting for the dynamic nature of the Internet. We do not market to children under 13 specifically. For more on COPPA.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

For a bonus, we have added a link to the GDPR requirements. Anyone can sign up for our newsletter or store promotions so it made sense to include the GDPR.
