The Breadsall Priory Marriott Hotel & Country Club was my home for three days while attending the Sheffield Hallam University MBA residential. The Priory “is an old house with a long history” that was established in the 13th century as the house of Austin Cannon.

Centuries later the Priory stands as a franchise of the Marriot hotel since 1995. Located in a secluded area in Derby, the Hotel and Country Club is surrounded by exceptional views. (Trust me when I say the view is to die for) It was the one thing I looked forward to every morning, while I took a walk around the grounds enjoying the fresh autumn breeze. During those walks, I found s a quirky little pet cemetery. The ambiance of the grounds was complemented with a fountain and a beautiful garden that overlooked their golf course.

Despite the old structure of the building, the facilities were quite modern, with a spa, gym, swimming pool, sauna and a fantastic steam room. The room was relaxing, spacious and equipped with comfortable bedding that contributed to a good night’s rest.

Rumor has it that the Breadsall Priory is haunted. In fact, two of my friends reported strange experiences while staying in room 336. After some research, I found that there were some tragic incidents that occurred by the Darwin family, past owners of the Priory. So, who knows their ghosts could be wandering around. If you are a thrill-seeker or a historian, the Breadsall Priory might just be the place for you.

The Breadsall Priory is advertised as one of the more luxury hotels in Derby but that doesn’t mean you can’t snag a room at a great price. If you are a Marriott Rewards member, the hotel is available for rates as low as 30,000 points per night.
