How do I determine where to go?

Updated: Dec 30, 2018

Choosing a vacation spot is a lot. Sure there are favorites; Miami, Rio, Paris, Bora Bora. However, picking a destination you’ve never heard of can change your life in ways some of the bigger most popular destinations cant. One of my favorite cities is Malaga, Spain. I’d never heard about it before my visit, yet I tracked over 8000 miles to go see it. How did I end up in Malaga? A good old fashion travel litmus test. I do it for all of my trips. What does it entail?

Here, ill show you.

First: I start out with a budget of $1000.00.

Second: I check Google flights and search, not by a specific destination. No matter where it ends up, I’m adventurous enough to visit and make the most of it. I visit Malaga for $398.53.

Third: I check the prices for accommodation in the city. I check all my options, hotels, hostels and Airbnb’s before making my decision. I chose an Airbnb which was roughly 50 dollars a night and was centrally located in Malaga. For four nights, with a cleaning fee, the total was $222. 50.

Then, I look at my balance.

USD 1,000.00 - 398.53 - 222.50 = $378.97

Then my budget for the trip is USD 378.97.

Luckily, this is a lot of for four days in Malaga and depending on what you plan to do, you can even return with some of it. I walked everywhere I needed to go with the exception of the train from the airport. €1.80 ($2.10) and kept my meals to under €15. (17.50)

Having an Airbnb has several perks. You can grocery shop and cook to keep your food expenses low. You have more of a local experience and thus ensuring you make the most of your trip.
