I arrived on the island on an early Monday morning. I pretty much had a few hours on island and chose to make the best of it. I hadn't been to the Bahamas since my little stint in Bimini and was looking forward to exploring the capital.

I got off the ship wand went into the harbor. I first walked the port side to see the offerings before moving into the side streets to explore what was available. I finally settled on a half day tour that pretty much did the trick. The tour started on the main square outside the government building where we learned a lot about local life and the activities that take part on the square. We then moved onto a rum cake factory and tried two variations of Bahamian rum cake. My favorite part of the trip was finally being able to partially cross Atlantis off my list. The bucket-list is to stay the night but I'd take what I could get for now.

We then grabbed lunch at Fort Mantagu. There are a few food stands that specialize in conch fritters and I was not passing up the opportunity. We then drove around to a few beaches and homes to experience island life and the day to day activities. Boating is very big in the Bahamas. The final stop was the Queens Staircase. Build as a thank you for Queen Victoria the first for aboloishing slavery, it stands as one of the longest standing monumnets on island. The remainder of the afternoon was spent at the World Famous Bahamas Straw Market before disappearing onto my ship.

Bahamas has many islands and it's a great place to visit and take in life at sea. I have no doubts i'd be back. It tends to be a popular destination on cruises and offers the calm beach life we all look for as travelers.
