Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

SVG Airport

I'd grown up hearing about St. Vincent, it was in every geography class. Grouped with the other Windward Islands but i'd never had the pleasure of meeting anyone from the island or visiting until now. I met the team from Discover SVG at the New York Travel Show and I was sold on the experience.

Now SVG is comprised of St. Vincent and the 32 other islands that make up the Grenadines, most natably: Bequia, Mustique, Mayreau, Canouan, Tobago Cays, Union Island, Palm Island and Petit St. Vincent. Each island offers a different experience and can make for a variet of trips but I chose the only one I've ever heard of Bequia. I came across Bequia in a song by O.G Park called Bequia and it seemed like a great place to start.

Unlike the song, I did need a passport but it made for a great trip none the less. I flew in on Delta Airlines via Atlanta (route scheduled to be cancelled September 2026) but there are a host of other airlines that fly to St. Vincnet. I flew into Argyle International Airport and cleared customs for a relitively smooth process. My hotel had arranged for transportation to pick me up from the airprot and take me to the ferry terminal in Kingstown. Althought I didn't technically do much in St. Vincent, here is a list of things I find intriguing and possibly on the list for a future visit.

Bequia

Port Elizabeth

The ferry to Bequia was eventful to say the least. The trip from Kingstown to Port Elizabeth takes roughly and hour and if I can offer any advice to you is to sit on the inside. Seeing the roughness of the waves is not recommended for the aquaticly challenged. (those that get sea sick) None the less, I made it and my only fear was having to do it again in a few days. There is also a short flight from SVG but i'd leave you to your imagination to figure the cost.

I got off in Port Elizabeth to the driver holding the sign with my name. He allowed me to visit the street stalls and local restaurants as they would be closed for most of my trip. I stayed in the Adams Bay area of Bequia at the Liming Hotel. The hotel is located next to the James F. Mitchell Airport (Bequia Airport) for those wanted a less scenic route.

Upon arrival, you're checked in at their beachfront reception with the choice of an alchaholic or non-alchaholic welcome drink. A golf cart then collects you to take you to your room. After a long day of travel and a much needed shower, the plan was a seaside dinner. The night ended with a bonfire a few feet away from where I had dinner.

Day two was a Sunday so I stayed at the hotel. I got up and ran a few miles to the airport and back and admired the views of Adams Bay from the run. Second order of business for the the day was fish and bakes (fried dumplings) for breakfast. After breakfast I walked the property and then sunbathed on the beach. It was my own little paradise for a while. The staff would come by with the occasional beverage. Doing nothin absolutely tires you out so after a shower and a nap, you guess it, more food. There were more guests on night two so we sat around chatting for the better part of the night.

The next few days copied the previous ones, like my little version of Deja Vu. The point of the vacation was relazation and I got more than enough. Leaving was hard as it felt like I was abandoning my own little slice of heaven but I had to. Bequia would always be one of my favorite places because I was allowed to just be. I managed to take a lap around Port Elizabeth before leaving and heading back to Kingstown. All in all, I was impressed with the experience and next time I'd incorporate more of the main island first before ultimately ending up in Canouan.
