Van Gogh Museum, NYC

Vincent Van Gogh
Vincent Van Gogh

My first run-in with the artist Vincent Van Gogh was back in the early 2000s. As a part of a college elective, I chose the artist for a term project. The most intriguing thing about the artist, to me anyway, was that he was a Dutch artist, and I wanted to visit the Netherlands.

As the semester went by, I learned more and more about his work and the sheer will he had to produce over 900 paintings in his 37 years of life. For my term project, I chose Wheatfield with Crows to write a paper on.

A few years later, I visited the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam and got to take in the full breathe of his work. So, of course, learning there was a virtual exhibit in my backyard, I couldn't pass up the opportunity.

I bought tickets at vangoghnyc.com and choose the American Express prime ticket for $79.99. Upon arrival, security checks bags and use metal detectors to search people.

If you purchase premium tickets, a pad is given to you on the inside once your tickets are scanned. The pad is to sit on the floor and observe the show from the inside. The show is less than an hour and, it is a great augmented reality show of the late artists work.

If you are in New York City, it is a great show to check out. I plan to spend more time in my city, so follow along to see where to next.
