As we left the coastal town on Perast in Montenegro, we embarked on a mission of sorts. We would be driving from Montenegro to Bosnia and Herzegovina. As I approached the border I noticed Serbian flags and was excited as I thought I was getting a bonus country on my trip. It did not turn out that way. Actually for some reason, even though we were in Bosnia, the flags at the border were Serbian and a few other flags upon entry.

The backdrop quickly moved from farmland and empty spaces to Soviet styled buildings and narrow roads. We were winding through tight streets and narrowly bypasing traffic before reaching to our first stop in the city of Trebinje. We were at Hercegovacka Grancanica, which is a church on the hill in Trebinje. The history behind the temple might vary by guide but it's a tremendous place for breathtaking views of the city below.

From there we drove into a few of the local neighbourhoods before stopping to have lunch in the city. After wandering around for a bit I found a small family restaurant to eat. I was excited to try Cevaps. There were tiny saugages packed into bread with a side of french fries. I ordered two different versions as well as a kebab to have a variety of local dishes. Then I sat and had a long conversation with the mother and son duo that ran the restaurant.

Although I was hung up on not going to Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina was a good short trip. The drive back to Dubrovnik was seamless and was less than an hour it felt. I look forward to returning to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the future to learn more about the country as a whole.
