Ban Jelacic Square
Ban Jelacic Square

I arrived in Zagreb on a cold Friday afternoon in anticipation of a night to remember. I should have landed at 2:30PM but due to storms that was not the case. Nevertheless I arrived in time to hustle to my hotel and get ready for my walking tour.

I had a 5:00 PM walking tour that I was now late for and my Uber drive became the longest rideever. I arrived about 15 minutes late and with the help of Whatsapp caught up to the rest of the tour. I caught up the Tour on Ban Jelacic Square. We learnt the history of the statue, as well as the fountain in the square. We then walked to the minutre version of the town. It puts into perspective of how impressive the town is in size.

We then visited the Zagreb Cathedral, the Holy Mary Monument and the Market Dolac. The Market was closed at this point but this helped in knowing the location for when I arrived the next few days on the trip. We then walked to the Funicular and took the short ride to the Lotrscak Tower. The tower is one of the the marvels of upper town and its best seen in the day when they actually let off the cannons. This is done at noon instead of a traditional clock.

We then went to St. Mark's Square where at this point the coldness was getting to me. Unfortunatley, I had to Abandon the tour and seek refuge in the Museum of Broken Relationships were I was able to secure a flat white and some heat. I spent an hour at the museum where I learned alot of weird things people either do or keep from past relationships.

I took the Funicular back to street level and headed to the Arena mall to pick up a few extra later items for the trip. I didn't anticipate it being this cold and I wanted to be prepared.

Hotel dinner was it for me as I was not trying to head back outside. The Canopy by Hilton Zagreb does a nice dinner and one I wouldn't miss if I was in the city. Warmed up and ready to go, headed over to Regular.Bar to see if it lived up to its name as the best bar In Zagreb as well as Bold Burger.

Day two in Zagreb was a day trip to Slovenia. When I got back I went to Jelacic Square for some authentic Croatian cuisine. Stari Fijaker and Didov San are a few places I wouldn't miss if I was in Zagreb.

The next morning was a trip to the Dolac Market to see what it looked like during the day before having to catch my flight to Dubrovnik. Zagreb is a really cool city and one I wouldn't mind visiting again in the warmer months on my way to Split.
