Dubrovnik from above
Dubrovnik from above

I arrived in Dubrovnik on a Sunday afternoon. I took the short flight from Zagreb instead of taking the train and then made the short journey to my hotel. I stayed at the Hilton Imperial Hotel which is directly outside one of the gates to Old Town Dubrovnik. The city center is a great place for information and they come with pre drawn maps to where you need to go.

First thing first was take the funicular to the top of the hill to watch the sun go down over the city. There is so much to do at the top, restaurants, ATV, people watching, you name it. Once that was over we entered the city walls for a tour. The most popular being the Game of Thrones tour but since I started in Season 5, you probably know more about it than I do.

I stumbled onto Barba and I swear I never left. Barba is a small family restaurant I fell inlove with while I was there. I had either lunch or dinner here everyday of the three days I was in Dubrovnik. The freshness of the food is unmatched and it's one of my favorite places in the city. Do me a favor, try the Octopus Burger.

Day two was meant for walking the walls of the old city as well as doing tours and museums. I bought the Dubrovik pass for 15 Euro and used that as my entry to most places. Keep in mind once you leave the walls you cannot re-enter. The whole thing takes about two hours and they are restaurants and bars on it, mostly open in the summer time, as well as souvenir shops, etc.

The city itself has great restaurants and an endless supply of gelato shops. You would be remised not to try one or two. Most of my time was spent within the walls and when I would get tired i'd return to the hotel and do it all over again. I also went to the Lovrjanec Fort above the city.

Day three was set for exploring outside of the walls and I did more walking than anything else. The city is nice and life is a bit simpler outside of the walls. There are alot of walking trails and viewpoints scattered around the city.

The final day was a day trip to Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina that took up the entire day. The final dinner was at Portun, followed by a gelato. I left the next morning early but Dubrovnik has made an impression and at last I need to watch Game of Thrones.
